Come and Take It

…That’s the meme that Democrats have been pushing for the last few days. It all started with Hillary Rosen making a jab at Mrs. Romney but the story has taken on a life of its own. 

It may not seem natural for me (a 25 year old guy) to get offended by this kind of comment but you’d have to know the woman that raised me. Mothers day is still a couple weeks away but there’s never a bad time to brag on your mom so I wanted to throw out some thoughts on the issue.

I don’t know much about Mrs. Romney, have no idea how hard she worked, what kinds of jobs she’s had, can’t remember how many kids she raised and don’t have a clue whether or not she felt it was stressful. None of that matters and it doesn’t take knowing the answers to those questions to be able to judge Rosen’s comments as insulting and derogatory to millions of women. 

I had the distinct blessing of my mom, Kathy, staying home to care for and homeschool my two brothers and I. For the last 26 years, her life has revolved around us.

Here are some of the bullet points from the last 27 years of her resume that Democrats claim doesn’t even equal 1 day of work:

• Cared for/put up with/love her husband for 27 years
• Spawned/raised/taught/tolerated 3 sons: I’m now pursuing a career in political action as state director for two national political organizations, Kris is a successful entrepreneur and Jacob is beginning work on his PhD in physics in August. 
• Managed a ~300 acre ranch for the last 14 years including live stock, upkeep and hay.
• Manages my aging grandparents finances & oversees their medical care.

Those bullet points don’t even scratch the surface of the work that she’s done over the last 27 years but if I tried for a comprehensive list I’d never do it justice. 

I want to be clear, unlike Hillary Rosen, my goal here is not to denigrate or defame all the mothers out there who don’t stay home with their children. Whether it’s out of necessity or choice or for some other reason, there is nothing wrong with that. 

My object is simply to point out that if you can look at what my mother did over the last 27 years and not think that even one day of that was work then you’re out of your ever lovin mind. 

I’ve been incredibly blessed. I had a mother that sacrified a promising career to make sure I had the best upbringing, care and education that could be given to me. My dad worked tirelessly as a small town doctor to provide for our family and instill a serious work ethic. Together, they raised three sons who work hard, love God and are each working to make sure this country is on the right track. 

…and yet Democrats say not a day of that was work…
